Offshore Developer Day Rates in 2026: Vietnam, France, India and Poland Compared

A figures-first comparison of developer day rates in 2026 across France, Vietnam, India and Poland, plus the method for turning a daily rate into a real cost.

Developer day rates in 2026 by country (France, Vietnam, India, Poland), sources included, and how to compare a daily rate against a real loaded cost.

An offshore developer today costs between 120 and 250 euros a day in Vietnam, against 500 to 700 euros for a Paris-based IT consultancy and 300 to 450 euros in Poland. That puts the spread in offshore developer day rates at a factor of four depending on the country you pick, but the number alone says nothing about the real seniority, the time zone or the turnover hiding behind it.

  • 💰 A four-to-one spread, Vietnam day rates run 120 to 250 €, a Paris consultancy 500 to 700 € in 2026.
  • 🌍 Country isn't everything, time zone, English and turnover matter as much as the headline rate.
  • ⚠️ A day rate on its own tells you nothing, always compare cost per feature delivered, not price per day.
  • At GoLive, senior profiles with 5 years minimum, CV within 48 hours, rate quoted alongside the CV.

I've been running an offshore consultancy in Vietnam for several years, so I have an obvious bias here. It's also why I know the traps in these day-rate comparisons better than most of the rate cards circulating online: a low rate you fail to manage often costs more than a high rate you manage well.

The real day-rate gap between France, Vietnam, India and Poland in 2026

France remains, by some distance, the most expensive market for a developer, whether salaried, freelance or staffed through a consultancy. A senior freelance developer on Malt averages 575 euros a day in early 2026, against 435 euros for someone with three to seven years of experience.

Paris consultancies generally bill between 500 and 700 euros a day for a senior profile, according to public rate cards for the 2026 consulting market. A salaried developer on a permanent contract works out at 600 to 700 euros a day fully loaded for a senior, and 400 to 500 euros for a junior, based on Syntec Numérique data cited in several industry guides.

At the other end of the scale, Vietnam sits at a market rate of 120 to 250 euros a day according to the comparison published by Code Talent, which puts the total annual cost of ownership for a qualified offshore developer at 40,000 to 50,000 euros a year, against roughly 95,000 euros for an equivalent profile in France. Poland lands in between, with an average day rate of 300 to 450 euros, helped by complete time-zone overlap with Europe and technical expertise recognised for decades.

Why does India post the lowest day rate on the market?

India remains the cheapest offshore destination on paper, with a market rate often between 150 and 300 euros a day. The flip side is familiar to any company that has already outsourced there: high turnover among junior and mid-level profiles, and a pool of senior developers that is narrow relative to the sheer size of the IT workforce.

The lowest day rate is never free, it just moves the cost somewhere else, usually into project management and picking up poorly documented code.

Why the headline day rate says almost nothing about real cost

A raw day rate compares prices, not outcomes. The right question isn't "what does a day cost" but "what does a delivered, maintainable feature cost", which includes scoping, rework and the risk of a production incident.

That's exactly the logic behind the Extra Dev comparison: the face-value gap between a 180-euro rate and a 575-euro rate isn't the real saving, it depends on whether another developer can pick up the code when they need to. A low rate with zero documentation often costs more over 12 months than a high rate with proper structure.

How do you turn a day rate into a comparable loaded cost?

The method has three steps. First, convert each day rate into a monthly cost on a basis of 20 billed days, so you're comparing like for like. Then add the real management overhead (code reviews, scoping meetings, fixes), which varies enormously with the maturity of the remote team. Finally, factor in replacement cost when someone leaves, badly underestimated in low-cost offshore where turnover sometimes tops 30% a year on junior profiles.

A senior developer in France at 650 euros a day comes to roughly 13,000 euros a month. A senior Vietnamese developer at 200 euros a day comes to 4,000 euros a month for the same volume, a three-to-one ratio before you even count management time.

Vietnam: seniority, time zone and English, what the low rate hides

Vietnam trains more than 50,000 software engineers a year according to the figures we compiled on golivesoftware.co, concentrated in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The GMT+7 time zone overlaps the European morning, keeping the gap to five or six hours depending on the season, against eight to ten hours for India or the Philippines.

On the ground, I see two kinds of Vietnamese developer: those straight out of university with decent textbook English but little spoken practice, and seniors who have already spent years working with Western clients and communicate without friction. The productivity gap between those two is far wider than the day-rate gap between them.

Vietnamese retention rates remain higher than in comparable offshore markets, according to figures compiled by Bocasay, which limits the risk of losing a developer in the middle of a critical sprint. Most rate cards ignore that factor entirely, even though it feeds straight into the real cost of a project.

GoLive Software: where we stand on this comparison

Let me be clear about it: I select and staff senior Vietnamese developers, so my read on the market isn't neutral. It's also informed by more than 100 profiles placed since 2022 with companies in France, Switzerland and Singapore, which gives me a vantage point few general comparisons have.

At GoLive Software, every profile has at least five years of experience, the CV arrives within 48 hours and the engagement can start within seven working days, replacement included and with no minimum commitment. The exact day rate is quoted directly alongside the CV of the profile we propose, because it varies with the stack, the precise seniority level and availability, not with some generic rate card published online.

A well-managed offshore day rate almost always beats a French consultancy on cost, but only if the team running it can tell a genuine senior from a junior in disguise. That's where most of the decision is really made, long before the number on the quote.

"The true cost of a developer is never readable from a single day-rate line. It's readable from their ability to deliver a product that's still running six months later."

How to choose between a low and a high day rate for your project

For an MVP or a product with a short roadmap, a low rate with weak oversight is risky: the time spent picking up the work can exceed what you saved on the rate. For a long-running core team, operated over several years with a real code review process and structured management, the day-rate gap becomes a genuine economic lever rather than just an accounting line.

I consistently recommend starting with a ten to fifteen day pilot before any long commitment, whatever country you choose. That test costs little and reveals in a few days what no rate card ever shows: communication quality, the rigour of the code delivered and how responsive the team actually is.

Frequently asked questions

What is the average day rate for an offshore developer in Vietnam in 2026?

The market day rate for an offshore developer in Vietnam sits between 120 and 250 euros a day in 2026 depending on seniority and stack, against 500 to 700 euros for a Paris consultancy on an equivalent profile. The exact rate depends heavily on the profile's real experience and their command of professional English.

Why is a French consultancy's day rate so high?

A French consultancy's day rate covers the fully loaded cost of the employee, the firm's margin, the sales overhead and the cost of running a business in France, a country where the cost of skilled labour remains among the highest in Europe. That rate doesn't necessarily reflect greater seniority than a good offshore developer.

Does a low offshore day rate automatically mean lower quality?

No, a low rate on its own says nothing about quality: it comes down mostly to the real seniority of the profile selected and how rigorous the provider's hiring process is. The real risk isn't the country of origin but the absence of serious screening on the experience and skills of the developer being staffed.

How do you compare an offshore day rate to a loaded French salary?

Convert the day rate into a monthly cost over 20 billed days, then add the real management overhead and the replacement cost if the person leaves. A senior French developer at 650 euros a day comes to roughly 13,000 euros a month, against around 4,000 euros for an equivalent senior Vietnamese profile on the same volume.

What is GoLive Software's day rate?

The exact day rate at GoLive Software is quoted directly alongside the CV of the profile we propose, within 48 hours, because it varies with the technical stack, the precise seniority level and the developer's availability. That approach avoids quoting a generic figure that wouldn't match the profile actually being staffed.
